Subject Overview

Subject Introduction

This academic year, our school introduced Science as a subject for Primary 1, Primary 2, Primary 4 and Primary 5 students. Guided by the curriculum vision of "Explore, Discover, Apply, and Innovate," the Science curriculum aims to nurture students' curiosity, imagination, and desire to explore the world and their surroundings.

Through a wide range of hands-on and minds-on scientific inquiry activities, students develop scientific process skills and independent learning abilities while building a solid foundation of scientific knowledge and concepts. The curriculum also fosters positive values and attitudes towards science and technology.

In addition, the curriculum emphasises the close connection between science, technology, and everyday life. By incorporating topics related to innovation and technology, students are encouraged to apply scientific knowledge, practical skills, and fundamental engineering thinking to solve real-life problems. This helps develop their scientific literacy, creativity, and problem-solving skills, equipping them to meet the challenges of the future.

The content covers four major categories: Life and Environment, Matter, Energy and Change, Earth and Space, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Society. In the scientific inquiry section, four steps (PDAR) – "Questioning and Planning" (Plan), "Implementing and Recording" (Do), "Organizing and Analyzing" (Analyse), and "Expressing and Reflecting" (Review) – are used to guide students in exploring natural phenomena or things related to daily life. In the learning activities of engineering design and innovation, four steps (PDIR) – "Defining Problems and Planning" (Plan), "Building Models and Testing" (Do), "Improving Designs" (Improve), and "Expressing and Reflecting" (Review) – are adopted to guide students in designing models or products.
